Problem:
When I attempt to connect to the Internet using Internet Explorer (operating
system: Windows XP Professional) I get a brief flash on screen of Internet
Explorer (IE) trying to connect, but nothing. I can connect to the Internet
using my subscribing Internet service of SBC Yahoo.

I am running Ad-ware SE Professional, Spybot Search and Destroy, and McAfee
protection. I noticed the problem of not being able to connect to the
Internet using IE soon after Ad-ware and Spybot were installed. It is my
understanding that the Ad-ware software may have damaged or affected the
registry that launches IE.

Attempted Fixes:
I have attempted to reinstall IE, but get a message: "setup has detected a
newer version of IE already installed on this system setup cannot continue".
I then found a fix which addresses this on the microsoft site using the
following registry key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Active Setup\Installed
Components\(89820200-ECBD-11cf-8B85-00AA005B4383) recommending to change
value data from 1 to 0, but that too did not solve the problem.

Also, I have gone to www.aumha.org/a/health.htm (take out the trash) to
purge and clean up temp files, this has not corrected the connection
problem.
Have also tried the site www.aumha.org/a/quickfix.htm (steps 1-4), but that
did not work either.

Have you had this problem of not being able to connect to the Internet using
Internet Explorer, any ideas?

Thank You, Ted

I have the same problem but it is confined to my attempts to access MSNBC
news. When I try I get the page to open -the news item text/[picture appears
for a moment and then disappears. ?????
